Google Finally Updates an Unwritten Rule for Indexing Web Pages

Google published an update to the Googlebot help documentation notifying that it’ll stop crawling a web page after reaching the first 15MB of an HTML file. It’s a hard limit, and any code / content after which will not be accounted for in ranking calculations.

Google goes on to state: “Any resources referenced in the HTML such as images, videos, CSS and JavaScript are fetched separately. After the first 15MB, the Googlebot stops crawling and only considers the first 15MB of the file for indexing. The file size limit is only applied on the uncompressed data.”*

When building your page, you’ll have to recognize what’s essential for your users / customers.
